St. Petersburg mayoral candidates Kathleen Ford and Bill Foster will participate in a forum at the Pinellas Community Church Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Two tickets are available in Professor Cleveland's mailbox.
There was a good turnout at last Tuesday's forum at the Carter G. Woodson Museum. It's an opportunity for you to shake hands with the candidates and meet them personally. Foster has been on the city council for 10 years and Ford's law office is in Midtown.
The candidates spoke on many issues including the Manhattan Casino. Foster envisions a community-driven tenant and wants to see it open again. Ford said the build-out will be expensive and the new tenant will need a long term lease to cover costs. She said she'd like to see a new jazz district in the community again.
"I want to see it active and bustling again," Ford said.
Both candidates spoke on achieving a "seamless city" for Midtown. Ford expressed concerns about past and present city government.
"There has been a good ole boy system in place, and I think it's time for a change," Ford said.
Foster said he was born and raised in St. Petersburg and has been committed to city government. He said he's been involved in Midtown's development while Ford was absent for a time.
