"Apartment vacancies rose to 7.8 percent, the highest they've been since 1986. Experts say the vacancy rate will rise through the winter as vacationers go home and units become empty.
Apartment complexes are increasing their concessions to lure tenants. Some waive security deposits, amenity fees and give free months of rent."

I've noticed some signs around the neighborhood saying free rent, etc. This might be a story in Midtown, it might not, but I just wanted to share it with you all so you can decide for yourself.
